Condors left winger Anton Slepyshev, shown in action against Stockton last season, was assigned to the Condors by Edmonton on Tuesday. He will be in the lineup for Bakersfield on Friday when they open American Hockey League season on Friday in Stockton.

Anton Slepyshev will be joining the Condors for the start of the American Hockey League season on Friday, but don’t expect him to be with the Condors for long.

In fact, if Condors fans want to see the Russian left wing in action, their only opportunity might be the opener in Stockton on Friday night.

The Edmonton Oilers assigned Slepyshev, who played nine games for the Condors last year and 41 with Edmonton, to the Condors on Tuesday in what looks like a brief conditioning assignment.

“We’d like him to go to Bakersfield and play one game there, perhaps as early as this weekend, and then bring him back and find a spot for him in our lineup,” Oilers coach Todd McLellan said Tuesday in a press conference before the Oilers assigned him to Bakersfield.

Slepyshev did not play in a NHL preseason game due to an ankle injury. He is ready to go, but it will not be in Edmonton’s opener on Wednesday

“We would have loved to play him (Wednesday) but I don’t think that’s fair to him or his teammates who have gone through training camp,” McLellan said. “I think he can be a very effective player for our club.”

Slepyshev had 10 points in nine games with the Condors last season.

In other Condors news, the Oilers reassigned center Kyle Platzer to Bakersfield’s ECHL affiliate, the Wichita Thunder and the Condors loaned right wing Zach O’Brien to the Thunder as well.
