The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners volleyball team got off the bus at Icardo Center on Sunday to a chorus of cheers.

CSUB faithful and fellow student-athletes awaited the team’s return following its WAC volleyball tournament championship this week at University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley.

CSUB earned the tournament crown, beating No. 1-seed New Mexico State, 3-1, in the semifinals and then beating No. 1-seed Rio Grande-Valley, 3-1, on the Vaqueros' home floor.

“I have to give it to the coaches,” said senior middle blocker Sydney Haynes. “They told us, ‘We believe in it. No matter what, no matter how our season’s gone, we believe in it.’ We just went along with it and we started believing. We wrote it on our wrists every day and we looked at it. We believed in each other, we believed in this program and we knew we could do it.”

The Roadrunners now await their fate in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 26. From there, the Roadrunners will find out their opponent in the 64-team field and hit the road for the opening round of the big dance on Nov. 30.
