Golden Valley senior Avea Lefotu, here wrestling at the 2017 CIF State Championships in Visalia, is one of 110 participants at the Kern County Girls Wrestling Championships at Shafter High on Saturday. 

There are five girls wrestlers from Kern County ranked No. 1 in the Central Section, and four of them lead the way at the Kern County Girls Championships beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Shafter High.

Those four: Genesis Quirarte (Ridgeview, 101 pounds), Assata Lewis (Golden Valley, 143), Avea Lefotu (Golden Valley, 160) and Kayvette Osorio (Golden Valley, 189) lead the field of 110 girls wrestlers at the county championships.

East High standout Kristen Banalas, the top-ranked 121-pounder in the section is not in action this weekend because of an injury.

The other top seeds for Saturday are: Tory Martinez (Liberty, 106), Sareena Bov (Golden Valley, 111), Sadie Angel (Centennial, 116), Jazmin Gutierrez (Ridgeview, 121), Janessa Rodriguez (Ridgeview, 126), Cindy Pelayo (East, 131), Shareni Donis (South, 143), Monica Chavez (Golden Valley, 150), Camarie Patrick-Boone (South, 170) and Julissa Chavez (South, 235).

Lewis, though ranked at 143, will compete this weekend at 137.

The finals are slated to begin between 2-3 p.m.
