Kern County fencer wins 5th place in State High School Fencing Championships

Carolina Geyer, a freshman, placed fifth in the Women’s Saber event at the California State High School Fencing Championships. More than 30 schools were represented in the tournament, which was held Sunday, at Chaminade High School in West Hills. Carolina won 80 percent of her pool bouts, losing only one bout 4-to-5 while fencing one of the top-rated women high school fencers in the nation.

In direct elimination rounds, Carolina made a strong showing to lose her final bout by one touch, 14-to-15, and finish 5th in the competition. Carolina fences with the Kern Athletic Fencing Foundation and assists as a volunteer youth coach. For more information, please call Lucas at 661-319-2235 or visit
