The Garces water polo team saw its playoff run end in the Division II NorCal regional semifinals with a 15-11 loss to Mountain View-St. Francis on Saturday.
The game was played at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento.
Garces trailed 5-3 after the first quarter and 11-5 at halftime. A late run cut the deficit to 15-11 in the fourth quarter but the Rams could get no closer.
St. Francis was the No. 1 seed in the tournament bracket, while Garces was seeded No. 4.
“That was probably the best team we played all year,” said Rams head coach Jason Gall. “I think we could have beat them. But we missed some shots and to their credit, they capitalized on our misses.”
Garces was led by Grayden Reynolds (five goals), Joe Starr (three), Eric Klang (two) and Lee Begin (one).
Ostin Woodfin had six saves in goal.
Garces finished the season with a 28-7 record and a Central Section Division II championship.
Gall said he considered the year a success after the team graduated six seniors and were breaking in a new goalie. He hopes the playoff performance translates to next season as well.
“We only had two seniors on the whole team (Begin and Oliver Oxley). It wasn’t a veteran team at all,” Gall said. “We were really starting from scratch, all the way around. I was proud of how the team came together and everyone found a niche. Everyone had a role, and everyone played their role really well.”
