Foothill boys basketball went to double-overtime against the No. 1 seed in Central Section Division IV, only to lose 93-86 at Kerman.
Foothill led 45-33 at halftime, but Kerman came back to cut it to 66-62 with just over a minute to play in the fourth quarter and eventually took a 67-66 lead in the final seconds.
Foothill’s Edward ‘Squid’ Turner made 1 of 2 free throws, however, to send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime session, Turner came through again, tipping in a missed shot to tie the score at 77 and sending the contest to double-OT.
Kerman would pull away in the second overtime, however, to move onto the title game. The D-IV section championship will be played Saturday at noon at Selland Arena in Fresno. Kerman will face No. 2-seed Bakersfield Christian, which beat No. 3 Madera South 63-48 in Tuesday's other semifinal.
Foothill head coach Wes Davis said some calls went against his team in the contest, and added there were plays the Trojans could have made on the court as well.
“It was tough calls,” Davis said. “At the same time, we accept our responsibility missing nine free throws and missing some key rebounds.”
Kerman has won 14 straight games and is now 28-3 on the year.
Foothill was seeded No. 4, and had experienced a turnaround season just one year removed from a winless campaign. The Trojans are now 22-10 on the year.
“Very proud of my team,” Davis said. “We’ve had a great year. We never quit.”
