The size of the Condors coaching staff has increased as it was announced on Wednesday that Derik Johnson has been hired as a video coordinator.

The hiring brings the staff to four as head coach Gerry Fleming and assistants J.F. Houle and Tony Borgford will be returning. All three have been together since the Edmonton Oilers moved their AHL franchise from Oklahoma City to Bakersfield for the 2015-16 season.

Fleming is heading into his third full season as head coach after taking over the reins in Oklahoma in December, 2014. Borgford is headed to his fourth season as an assistant after joining the organization in 2014. Houle was head coach of the Condors in the ECHL in 2104-15, before the switch to the AHL.

Johnson, 27, played collegiately at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and spent the last two seasons playing the ECHL for the Reading, Penn., Royals, while also getting into four AHL games.

The entire coaching staff will be headed to Edmonton in early September for the Oilers’ rookie camp.

In other news, the Condors announced that Alec James has been hired as assistant equipment manager.

The Condors open the AHL season at home on Oct. 12 against San Antonio.
