Manny Rivera has stepped down as the head wrestling coach at Cal State Bakersfield, the school announced Thursday.
Rivera, who took over as the program's head coach in 2016, is pursuing an opportunity outside of coaching, the CSUB Athletic Department said. In his time with the Roadrunners, they had 15 NCAA qualifiers and four Pac-12 champions, including Russell Rohlfing and Josh Loomer in 2020.
Rivera, who will stay on at the school through the end of October, will be replaced on an interim basis by Luke Smith, who's spent the previous two seasons as an assistant on the CSUB staff.
"I am extremely excited about the future of the CSUB wrestling program (and) I have full confidence in the leadership of our interim head coach Luke Smith," CSUB Athletic Director Kenneth "Ziggy" Siegfried said in a press release.
