Six different Roadrunners scored in the women’s soccer team’s 6-1 win over Chicago State on Sunday, but it was Aminah Settles’ goal that was the most noteworthy. The redshirt junior from Tucson, Arizona netted her 20th goal of her career, passing Sam Peña (2009-12) for the top spot on CSUB’s Division I career goals record.

Settles started the year with 16 goals, slotting her at second on the list. She’s now fourth all-time at CSUB in goals. The record for any Roadrunners women’s player is 43 goals from Jamie Simpson (1996-99). Settles’ four goals this year are third-best on the team. She’s three assists shy of breaking CSUB’s D-I career record set by Daisy Vazquez (2009-12).

Roadrunners sweep WAC swimmer of the week awards

Both the Western Athletic Conference’s men’s and women’s swimmer of the week honors were awarded to CSUB swimmers in the team’s second week of competition. Jayssie Haynes was named the women’s swimmer of the week and Lovre Soric was named the men’s swimmer of the week.

Haynes placed first in each of her individual events as the women beat Pacific in their home opener on Saturday. She helped CSUB to win the 400-yard freestyle race in addition to her 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley wins.

Soric won the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley to help the men’s team beat Pacific. He came in second in the 200-yard backstroke.

Volleyball suffers first conference loss

The Roadrunners’ perfect start to WAC play was bound to end eventually. It stopped at five and CSUB’s win streak halted at six games when the Roadrunners lost to New Mexico State on the road Thursday. CSUB lost its next match, at Texas-Rio Grande Valley, too. CSUB is now third in the conference standings behind those two teams.
