Corn dogs and throwing darts at balloons to win an oversized Snoopy are all fine and good, but what's a trip to the Kern County Fair without taking in a rodeo or two?

Steers and bulls will once again be tossing riders and kicking up a storm at the fairgrounds' Coors Grandstand Arena.

There are two rodeos scheduled for this year's fair:

PRCA RODEO

7:30 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29

Ticket prices: adult box $15; adult handicap and general admission $10; children 5 and under don't require a ticket if they're sitting on a parent's lap.

In PRCA, "the fastest cowgirls and the toughest cowboys" show off their skills in rodeo's six standard events — plus the women's barrel race. Crowds will cringe and cheer as life and limb is risked in steer wrestling, bareback riding and white-knuckle bull riding.

FIESTA DEL CHARRO RODEO

7:30 p.m. Sept. 30

Ticket prices: adult box $15; adult handicap and general admission $10; children 5 and under don't require a ticket if they're sitting on a parent's lap.

Billed as a "classic Mexican-style" rodeo competition, the Fiesta Del Charro Rodeo features mariachi bands and bronc-and-bull riding announced in both English and Spanish. Sit back and enjoy trick roping, dancing horses and more.
