The 41st President had several connections to Bakersfield, starting with a three-month stay here in 1949 when he was working as an oil equipment salesman. George H.W. and Barbara Bush lived in a small white house on Monterey Street, which was later purchased by Mark and Cathy Abernathy with plans to turn it into a museum. Bush also spoke at the Bakersfield Business Conference in 1995.
