The Westside Parkway eastbound off-ramp to Coffee Road will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, to allow repairs of a damaged guardrail.
The Coffee Road on-ramp will remain open.
During the off-ramp closure, eastbound traffic will be able to exit the Westside Parkway at Calloway Drive or Mohawk Street.
This will likely result in traffic delays. Drivers are advised to use caution and take alternate routes or allow extra travel time through this area.
From Aug. 17 to Sept. 3, the Bakersfield Police Department will be participating in the nationwide enforcement campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
During the period, police and sheriff’s department across the country will increase the number of officers on the road to stop suspected drunk or drug impaired drivers.
BPD will deploy DUI saturation patrols on the weekends during the 18-day period.
The police department will also be conducting a DUI checkpoint Aug. 18 and Aug. 28.
The enforcement campaign runs through Labor Day weekend, which is one of the deadliest times of the year for alcohol-involved traffic deaths.
“It’s up to drivers to make the smart decision and drive sober, not just for this enforcement period, but every day”, said Chief of Police, Lyle Martin in a statement. “This isn’t about ticketing. This is a campaign to get the message out that driving impaired is illegal and takes lives.”
Funding for the DUI operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration.
