The young woman, speaking rapidly, told a Kern County judge she remains in love with the 29-year-old former Delano High School employee who engaged in sex acts with her — and other girls — while they were teenagers.

Identified in court only as "Jane Doe 1," the now-18-year-old asked a Kern County judge Thursday to lift the 10-year criminal protective order requiring Bobby Scott Perigo stay away from her.

After confirming the woman is now of legal age, Judge Charles R. Brehmer lifted the protective order.

He then sentenced Perigo to 16 months in jail and ordered him to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. A criminal protective order for two other victims remains in place, requiring Perigo to not contact them and remain at least 500 yards away from them.

"(Perigo) engaged in highly inappropriate, illegal conduct," prosecutor John Allen said afterward.

Perigo betrayed his position of trust as a school employee, Allen said. As for Jane Doe 1's comments, he said she has a right to an opinion.

Defense attorney Alekxia Torres Stallings, of the Law Office of David A. Torres, said Perigo has been awaiting this day after pleading no contest last month to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse. Six other felonies, and one misdemeanor, were dismissed under the plea agreement.

"I think he is relieved he was sentenced and can get back to his life," Stallings said.

Also Thursday, Perigo's former colleague, Juan Brito, was sentenced to three years' probation. He pleaded no contest last month to a misdemeanor count of being an accessory to a crime.

Brito knew about Perigo's relationship with Jane Doe 1 but didn't report it to police as state law mandates, according to Delano police reports.

In March 2016, Perigo admitted to detectives that he carried out a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl at Delano High, the reports said. He was arrested March 24 last year and, after violating a protective order to stay away from the teen, his bail was raised to $500,000.

Police suspected that Brito not only knew about Perigo' s relationship with a 17-year-old student but also worked in conjunction with him to lure and seduce victims through social media sites, the reports said.

Both men were student affairs specialists at Delano High.

Accusations against Perigo first surfaced in 2008 when a 16-year-old girl told police she and Perigo had sex multiple times, according to reports.

Perigo denied it, and the girl refused to undergo a forensic exam. He was not arrested.

On Aug. 21, 2009, Perigo told detectives he groped and fondled a 17-year-old girl in his personal vehicle while she was naked, reports said. He was a CHP Academy cadet at the time of the incident.

Three days later, Perigo resigned his position as a CHP officer in the Newhall area.
