Hikers, foresters, fisherpersons, Native Americans and environmentalists, including members of the local Sierra Club chapter, demonstrated against the Trump administration's decision to downsize two national moments Monday, gathering outside the offices of Congressman Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield.

While President Trump was in Utah announcing proclamations that dramatically shrink the size of that state's two massive national monuments, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante — the largest single-day reversal of national monument protections in U.S. history — about 25 people assembled in Bakersfeld to express their displeasure. McCarthy's office was locked.
