Two motorists were arrested on suspicion for driving under the influence during a DUI/ driver's license checkpoint on Saturday, Dec. 2, a BPD news release said.

From 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. officers screened 1,818 vehicles in the 4600 block of Panama Lane, the release said.

Eight drivers were detained for their sobriety levels to be further evaluated and 37 drivers were cited for no driver's license or driving on a suspended license, the BPD news release said.

Checkpoints like these are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. BPD encourages anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver to call 911.
