TODAY AT THE BUDWEISER PAVILION

Lauren Alaina, free concert at 8 p.m.: Lauren Alaina made a name for herself on the "American Idol" stage in 2011. She delivered a powerhouse performance each week until she was declared the runner-up. With her latest album, "Road Less Traveled," she blends pop and country into songs like "Queen of Hearts," "My Kinda People" and "Crashin' The Boys' Club." Concert-goers might even be able to pick up on Alaina's Carrie Underwood vibe, another "American Idol" alumna and her idol.

FIVE BEST BETS

Kern County Fair

Caroline Addison Pock, 21 months, pulled up her first pair of cowboy boots and hit the petting zoo at the Kern County Fair, where she chased after goats, pigs, cows and even a wallaby.

Enjoy a few "belles" and whistles: The Beverly Belles bring a bit of the 1930s through 1950s with them wherever they go. This all-female group draws inspiration from The Andrews Sisters and can be seen 5, 6 and 8:30 p.m. at the Main Plaza Stage.

Let them judge cake: See some of Kern County's best cakes on display at Kayla's Favorite Cake contest. Judging begins at 6 p.m., and the first-place winner takes home $50.

Get a workout in: Who says people can't get a little exercise while at the fair? Jazzercise is a combination of aerobic exercise and dance fitness available for people of all ages.

Meet some friendly animals: As part of School Days, children from preschool through sixth grade have several activities available to them throughout the morning. A petting zoo with goats, sheep and other animals is part of the fun from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at KC's Corner.

Head to Inversion: Inversion, one of the rides available the fair, swings passengers side to side like a pendulum then swings to invert them completely around and upside down. The inversion can reach a height of nearly 80 feet.
