FIVE BEST BETS

Charro

A photograph of the Fiesta Del Charro Rodeo on the Kern County Fair's website.

Head to the rodeo: Fiesta Del Charro is a classic Mexican-style rodeo competition complete with traditional charros (horsemen). The show features bull riding, trick roping, dancing horses and escaramuza, an all-female sport. Fair admission is not included with rodeo tickets.

Learn some taekwondo: Take some time to learn about the Korean sport taekwondo. Han’s Taekwondo Academy will show participants several kicking techniques.

Enjoy Polynesian culture: “Tatou Uma” in the Samoan language means “All of us.” The Tatau Une Polynesian Dance show will give audiences the chance to learn about Polynesia and its history through traditional dance.

Ride the Zipper: What better way to end the fair than by going on one last ride. With vertical spinning, turning motions, the Zipper is a great ride for thrill seekers.

Get your ice cream: Before heading home, stop by Mary's Ice Cream Parlor for your ice cream fix. The stand includes a new rolled ice cream menu item, as well as chocolate-covered bacon, sundaes and frozen lemonade.
