TODAY AT THE BUDWEISER PAVILION

Chris Janson, free concert at 8 p.m.: Country music fans are familiar with Chris Janson and they might not even know it. He has written songs for Tim McGraw ("Truck Yeah") and Justin Moore ("Off The Beaten Path"). Since then, he has taken his talents to the main stage and released two studio albums, "Buy Me a Boat" and "Everybody." Nashville Gab wrote, "He brings a blue-collar, redneck edge to every show that seems to be lacking in country music these days," and it's sure to make an appearance at the Budweiser stage.

Rodeo

In this 2002 file photo, Tom McFarland rides Floodwaters Dippin for the win with a score of 88 at the Kern County Fair PRCA Rodeo.

Head to the rodeo: Calling all cowboys and cowgirls: The PRCA Rodeo is in town. The toughest and fastest participants put their skills to the test in the rodeo’s six standard events plus the women’s barrel race. General admission costs $10. Fair admission is not included with rodeo tickets.

Watch student chefs compete: The Student Chopped contest is back and more students selected by Bakersfield College culinary and nutrition staff will battle the kitchen blaze beginning at 6 p.m. in Building 4. Entries will be scored for taste, presentation and sanitation and hygiene application.

Watch a dance "krew": D.A.T Krew will amaze audiences with its hip-hop and krump dance routine. The way members effortlessly move and glide is a sight to see at 5:30 p.m. at the KC Lane Stage

Eat Chinese food: Egg Roll On A Stick offers fair-goers a break from traditional concession food. The stand offers an orange chicken rice bowl, pan fried chow mein and toothless dragon wings.

Try not to get dizzy: Vertigo stands at an intimidating 100 feet. Once the ride begins, the entire center twists in a circular motion as riders are lifted up until they reach the top.
