Crimes in Tehachapi including murder, aggravated assault and robbery dropped to an all-time low in 2017, according to the Tehachapi Police Department.

Police Chief Kent Kroeger said in a news release that those and other crimes the FBI defines as "Part I Crimes" dropped 18.4 percent in 2017 compared to 2016. There were 278 Part I crimes last year, the lowest ever reported by the department.

"Crime prevention is ultimately a shared responsibility between the local community and law enforcement," Kroeger said. "Our community is doing an amazing job of taking extra precautions and reducing the opportunity for crimes to occur."
