A Lake Isabella man who died in custody last month fought with deputies -- including punching one in the face -- before being subdued, according to court filings.

Michael Earl Lemon was pronounced dead at Kern Valley Hospital at 7:44 a.m. April 8, about 11/2 hours after he became unresponsive when arrested by two deputies.
