A giveaway hosted Wednesday by Community Action Partnership of Kern made some 28,000 children's books available for free to just about anyone who wanted them.
The event from 4 to 6 p.m. at 5005 Business Park North was intended to promote literacy and the joy of reading among children and young adults. The books were donated by the Molina Foundation.
Coupled with booths that shared information on various community resources, the event was open to virtually all of Kern County, including families, teachers and community organizations looking to increase their library.
