Tree trimmer rescued in Delano

Photos from the scene of a rescue in Delano Tuesday morning. A tree trimmer's climbing gear failed and he was clinging to the tree 40 feet above ground. Kern County firefighters were able to rescue him when a good samaritan with a boom lift arrived on the scene.

A man trimming palm trees in Delano was clinging to the tree's trunk 40 feet above ground when firefighters arrived to rescue him Tuesday morning. The tree trimmer was not injured but was reportedly feeling numbness in his arms and legs and was exhausted from holding onto the tree after his climbing fear failed, according to a Kern County Fire Department news release.

A ground ladder firefighters tried to use was not long enough to reach the man. But a good samaritan nearby with access to an articulated boom lift heard of the incident and arrived at the scene and offered to help. With the help of a firefighter, the man was rescued using the lift. He refused treatment.
