The Kern Law Enforcement Association has endorsed Willie Rivera, who is seeking re-election for Bakersfield City Council Ward 1.
"We will continue to support candidates who make public safety a priority," KLEA President Tim Caughron said in a news release. "Councilmember Rivera has shown he understands the challenges that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis, and is committed to putting the public's safety first."
Rivera was elected to the City Council in a 2013 special election and has served 5½ years. He is the youngest elected City Council member in Bakersfield's history.
His challengers are Bakersfield businessman Marvin Dean and student Gilberto de la Torre.
