Erskine fire 0629 update

Kern Valley High School staffers are looking for students who’ve lost homes in the Erskine Fire to help with clothing and other items.

The Kern High School District is providing a $400 voucher per student for personal necessities.

Local high school staffers plan to take students who have suffered a verified loss to the Target on Rosedale Highway in Bakersfield and help students pick out needed items.

Recognizing many of these kids may have no place to store belongings, staffers will make two trips, one now for essentials and another in a few weeks or whenever the students have lodging.

Any Kern Valley High families with a verified loss are asked to call the school at (760) 379-2611.

“We’ve confirmed about 20 kids from 18 different families who have lost their homes. But we haven’t been able to make contact with all families because land lines are down and cell service is out,” said Kern Valley High Principal John Meyers.

He urged families to call noting that other fundraising efforts are also underway to help these students.
