House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, traveled with President Donald Trump on Air Force One Wednesday to Las Vegas to meet with victims of Sunday night's mass shooting, including ones from Kern County, as well as law enforcement and first-responders.

The congressman shared stories with Trump about people from the area he represents who were killed or injured in the massacre, McCarthy's office said. After visiting with locals recovering in a Las Vegas hospital, it said, McCarthy joined the president at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Station to honor state and local law enforcement officials and first responders for their bravery.

Four people from Kern County died in the shooting and several others were hurt. They hail from all over Kern.

McCarthy said in a statement:

“It was an honor to accompany President Trump on his visit to Las Vegas. Our community has felt tremendous pain over the past several days but through that pain we have come together to honor and celebrate the lives of those who have left us too soon.

"I was humbled to share these memories directly with the president. He expressed his deepest sympathies and that he stands with the families and our community. As our neighbors continue to recover, we pray to heal this pain.”
