French Fire 98 percent contained


Edison workers inspect and repair power lines near Highway 155 Tuesday afternoon. The French Fire continues to burn in the Kern River Valley as fire officials estimate it has scorched 26,745 acres and is at 65 percent containment as of Tuesday. Officials have lifted evacuation orders for the communities of Keysville, Shirley Meadows, Alta Sierra, Slick Rock, Wagy Flat and Black Gulch.

The French Fire is 98 percent contained and has burned 26,535 acres.

Most fire activity was isolated to fire pockets and interior hot spots that flared up for a short amount of time, according to the Bureau of Land Management.

The Keysville Special Recreation Management Area remains closed, according to BLM.
