Legendary musician Elton John has cancelled his May 6 show at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield after postponing the engagement twice.
Illness was cited as the reason for the cancellation.
"During a recent, successful tour of South America, Elton contracted a harmful and unusual bacterial infection. During his return flight home from Santiago, Chile, he became violently ill," stated a press release from Rabobank staff.
The "Rocket Man" performer is resting at home after spending two nights in the intensive care unit, the press release said. He is scheduled to return to performances in early June.
Ticket-holders will have their purchase refunded at the point-of-purchase, the press release stated.
John was originally slated to perform in Bakersfield on March 18. That engagement was postponed to April 22 and then to May 6.
He has performed in Bakersfield several times in recent years, including 1999, 2003 and 2008.
