The city will be closing lanes on some bridges in town for repairs next week.

From 1 a.m. to noon Tuesday, there will be reduced lanes on Calloway Drive at the Kern River as well as on Monitor Street at the Arvin Edison Canal. From 8 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, Calloway Drive will see closures again as well as Coffee Road over the Valley Canal.

From 8 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday, Buck Owens Boulevard will experience lane closures at the Calloway Canal. Finally, lanes on Rosedale Highway will be closed where it passes the Kern River.

Motorists will have access to one lane in each direction during road work.

The Bakersfield Department of Motor Vehicles is extending its hours to Saturdays starting this month.

The DMV, located at 3120 F St., will be open June 16 and 23 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The department will continue to be open the first and third Saturdays of each month. Services will be limited and will not include behind-the-wheel exams.

The department is one of many across California that is extending its hours to provide more convenience for residents.

Free band concerts at Beale Park are returning this summer.

Concerts featuring the Bakersfield Municipal Band will be held every week for four weeks, starting June 10 and ending July 1. The concerts start at 8 p.m. at the Beale Park Amphitheater, 500 Oleander Ave.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
