Bakersfield Heart Hospital has been designated as an accredited Heart Failure Center by the American College of Cardiology. It was the only hospital in the state to receive that accreditation.

The hospital was recognized with the accreditation in May after undergoing a rigorous onsite review of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with heart failure. The hospital also had to develop an action plan, adopt best practices and more to be eligible.

Taft College has received $80,000 from Chevron to help support three campus programs: The Transition to Independent Living program, Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) outreach program and the childcare center.

Funding will go specifically toward helping TIL students with their workforce training projects with local employers, repairing the outdoor shade structure at the childcare center and supporting the STEM program’s K-14 West Side Outreach program and its Mobile STEM Lab.

Representatives from Chevron will be on campus to provide a check to the college at 10 a.m. June 25 in the Chevron Innovation Lab, 29 Cougar Court.

The Bakersfield National Cemetery is recognizing veterans interred at the cemetery without honors or family on June 21.

The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. at the cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd. in Arvin. This is one of four ceremonies honoring these veterans each year. One is held on the third Thursday during the last month of each quarter.

After this month’s ceremony, the next is scheduled for Sept. 20.
