This year’s California almond crop is expected to total 2.05 billion pounds, a 7.9 percent increase from last year’s production and the first time the state’s output of the nut will have topped 2 billion pounds since 2013, according to a report released Wednesday.

The estimate reflects expectations for a 4.9 percent year-over-year increase in the average nut set per tree, to 6,159.

Wednesday’s forecast was put together by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service and funded by the Almond Board of California.

The median sale price of an existing home in Bakersfield surged 6.1 percent last month to reach $238,725, the city’s highest since December 2007, according to a preliminary report by local appraiser Gary Crabtree.

June’s price increase came as supply, as measured by property listings, declined 0.5 percent to 1,499, Crabtree reported. Meanwhile, the number of sales closed, a gauge of demand, rose 6.4 percent to 597.

Crabtree interpreted the data as a sign local home sales peaked a month early this year — in June instead of the usual July.

The rental price of a two-bedroom apartment in Bakersfield increased 3.9 percent this month to reach $800, apartment rental search company Zumper reports.

The rental price of a one-bedroom, meanwhile, dropped 2.9 percent to settle at $680, according to the report.

Zumper said Bakersfield now ranks 75th in its survey of 100 rental markets across the country.
