A teenager from McKee Middle School was arrested this week after she made threats to “shoot up” the school.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said a school resource officer learned that a message was left in one of the girl’s bathrooms threatening violence at the school on Thursday. Additional deputies were dispatched to the school on Thursday in case of an incident but the department said nothing happened.

Through an investigation, deputies were able to determine that a 13-year-old girl had left the message. The girl was arrested but subsequently let go and given a citation for causing a false emergency.

According to the department, the girl wasn’t in possession of any weapons or had access to them. The Sheriff’s Office said she wasn’t serious about attacking the school.

The name of the student wasn’t provided due to her age.
