A man and woman died in a crash Tuesday morning in Delano as they fled federal agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Delano police said.
Officers were called to the 3000 block of West Cecil Avenue at about 6:54 a.m. regarding a crash and found an SUV on its roof. Police said the vehicle had been speeding west on Cecil when the driver drove onto the dirt shoulder and lost control.
The vehicle overturned and stopped after hitting a power pole, according to police. Both occupants — neither of whose name has been released — were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police discovered ICE agents had tried stopping the SUV by activating emergency lights. The SUV's driver initially pulled over, but fled after the agents exited their vehicle, and the crash occurred shortly afterward.
