Firefighters freed four people from vehicles involved in a crash on Highway 178 Thursday that killed three dogs.

According to Bakersfield Police Department, four people became pinned in when a car and SUV collided on Highway 178 at Rancheria Road. The Jaws of Life were used to get two males and two females out of the vehicles.

One person suffered major injures and the other two suffered moderate injuries in the 2:43 p.m. crash, firefighters said. All four were taken to local hospitals where one man died.

BPD says the adult male driving the compact vehicle lost control of his car while driving eastbound and crossed over the center lane, crashing into the SUV head on.

According to BPD, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

Other than transporting to vet and back, there is never a good reason to drive around with pets! Here is an example.
