The Bakersfield Fire Department's Honor Guard raised the flag during posting of the colors at the start of last year's 9/11 memorial ceremony along Buena Vista Road near Deer Peak Drive. BFD and the Bakersfield Police Department are planning a similar event on Friday.

Friday marks the 19-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and there are a variety of memorials happening throughout Kern County to remember for those fateful moments.

Here are some events taking place Friday in and around Bakersfield:

Portrait of a Warrior: The gallery will be hosting an invitation-only event at 7:30 a.m., featuring a speech by U.S. Congressman Kevin McCarthy, a roll call for Kern County’s 27 fallen soldiers after 9/11, a rifle salute and performance of taps.

Law enforcement: The Bakersfield Fire Department will co-host a virtual 9/11 memorial alongside the Bakersfield Police Department at 8:30 a.m. It will be live streamed on BFD’s Facebook page.

The event will last about an hour to an hour and a half and will include various speakers, BPD and BFD honor guards, and bagpipes played by two BFD members, according BFD’s public information officer Michael Walkley. Flowers will also be available to place on BFD’s 9/11 memorial monument.

Bear Valley Springs: The community east of Bakersfield near Tehachapi will host a veterans memorial at Cub Lake at 9 a.m., according to Bear Valley Springs Veteran’s Association Cmdr. Martin Hernandez. There will be a moment of silence for 9/11 victims and flags will be lowered to half-staff. Additionally, a bagpipe player will play “Amazing Grace,” there will be a three-round rifle solute and a bugler will play taps, Hernandez said.

“It’s going to be very solemn, very respectful and no more than five minutes,” Hernandez said.

“We just felt it necessary to never forget that day.

“One of my goals was to ramp up our honor guard; I really have formalized it myself. Now that we have that, we are able to do these events with more honor and respect.”

The Taft Chamber of Commerce: They’ll be hosting a “first responder cruise night” at 6 p.m. in downtown Taft along Center Street, according to a news release. The cruise is designed to support and thank first responders.

Bakersfield Harley Davidson: A 9/11 memorial flower laying will be taking place from noon to 7:30 p.m. at 515 Truxtun Ave. Participants can ride or drive through and receive a flower.

My prayers go out to all the souls lost on September 11, 2001. We will never forget, 19 years later.

Also, my prayers to the 3 U.S. Marines and Embassador Stevens lost 8 years ago, September 11, 2012. Your lives will be remembered. May you rest in peace.

Noor bin Ladin, the niece of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, revealed she's a big fan of President Donald Trump in an interview with the New York Post. "I have been a supporter of President Trump since he announced he was running in the early days in 2015. I have watched from afar and I admire this man's resolve," said the Switzerland resident.

Lets say a prayer or 2 for the people Donald Trump has killed. Bin Laden 3,500, Trump 200,000. Cone on man.
