A motorcyclist died Friday after running a red light and crashing into the back of a utility trailer, police said.

Police were called to the intersection of South Chester Avenue and Richland Street around 10 a.m. and found a man lying in the roadway, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was driving south on Chester between 50 to 60 mph when he ran a red light and hit a trailer being pulled by a one-ton truck, according to police. He was thrown from his bike.

The truck driver was uninjured.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor on the part of the driver that was operating the truck, police said, and it's unknown if the motorcyclist was under the influence.

The motorcyclist's name had not been released as of late Friday afternoon.
