A man tried to break into a residence on early Saturday morning but was thwarted by the homeowner, according to police.

The Bakersfield Police Department said that at around 1:20 a.m., officers were sent to a residence in the 9600 block of Ravenwood Drive after getting a report of a disturbance in the area. Officers learned that a resident had fired a weapon at the suspect as they attempted to get in.

The department said a man suffering several gunshot wounds was found at the scene and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police didn’t say how serious the suspect’s wounds were.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call the police at 327-7111.
