A 42-year-old woman who was strangled at a motel off Union Avenue last month was identified Tuesday.

The body of Delenna Rebecca Ruiz was found by police in the Town & Country Motel on Grove Street on Oct. 14 after her accused killer called 911, according to coroner's and police reports.

Eldrick Richmond, 52, told police he hit Ruiz multiple times and put his hands around her throat as the two struggled in a motel room that morning, according to court documents. He said they fought after he caught her going through his belongings.

Richmond is charged with first-degree murder and has a court hearing scheduled for Jan. 10.
