Coroner identifies 5-year-old killed in Thursday night shooting

The 5-year-old boy shot and killed in a drive-by shooting Thursday has been identified.

Kason Devon Guyton was shot at 7:46 p.m. as he traveled in a car in the 600 block of California Avenue, according to a coroner's office release. He was pronounced dead about a half hour later at Adventist Health Bakersfield, formerly known as San Joaquin Community Hospital. 

Guyton's 7-year-old brother was wounded in the shooting but survived. 

No suspect information has been released, and the suspect vehicle is identified only as a dark-colored four-door sedan. 

Police have set up a 24-hour phone line for information regarding the shooting. The line will be staffed by a detective until further notice at 326-3553.

The Secret Witness program is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and filing of a criminal complaint against the suspect. That number, 322-4040, operates 24 hours a day and secrecy is guaranteed to those who call.
