The Bakersfield Police Department has been awarded a $415,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for a year-long program of special enforcements and public awareness.

“The Bakersfield Police Department is committed to ensuring traffic safety on city roadways,” Police Chief Greg Williamson said in a news release Wednesday.

The grant will fund activities including educational presentations, DUI checkpoints, bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement, distracted driving enforcement and seat belt and child safety seat enforcement.
