A body was found early Wednesday near East Bakersfield High School, sheriff's officials said.

Deputies were dispatched at 12:48 a.m. to the west side of the school at 2200 Quincy St. to a report of a possibly dead person on the sidewalk, according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrived and spoke to the reporting party, who led them to a body which sheriff's officials said had been dead "for a period of time."

The body had no obvious signs of trauma, and it's possible the person died at another location and was dropped near the school, deputies said.

The coroner's office will identify the body and perform an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 861-3110 or Secret Witness at 322-4040.
