El Cerrito Mexican Style Lager from Bakersfield-based Temblor Brewing Company has won a gold medal at the U.S. Open Beer Championship in Ohio.

Bakersfield-based Temblor Brewing Co.'s El Cerrito Mexican Style Lager has won a gold medal at the U.S. Open Beer Championship in the American Premium Lager category.

Breweries from across the world sent in more than 6,300 beers representing more than 110 different beer styles to the Championship, Temblor said in a news release.

Judging the competition is blind; the judges only know the categories, but they do not know what beers they taste. The final round of judging was held Friday at the Quarter Barrel Brewery & Pub in Oxford, Ohio.

El Cerrito is Bakersfield’s first locally produced lager to win a gold medal in an international beer competition, Temblor said.

The craft lager is made from 100 percent barley malt, with traditional German lager yeast and hops. It is 4.75 percent alcohol by volume and is available at area stores, restaurants and pubs in cans and on draft.

Founded in September 2015, Temblor is a 19,000-square-foot brewery, restaurant, comedy club, private event space and music venue.

Boogerface Nutter

I like it when the paper uses Bako to describe the town.
Several years ago there were two guys on Adam Carolla's radio show regularly...Lynn and Alex.
Obviously gay, they have their own hollywood blog and mentioned that they had met at the Rainbow Room in Bakersfield.
I got on their blog and emailed them, telling them I was from Bakersfield and loved their appearances on the Carolla show.
I got an email back, saying it was good to hear from another "Bako" listener and they were glad I was on board.
When I saw "Bako", I knew that they were indeed natives.
If you get near LAX, Three Weavers brewing is just off Manchester and the 405. Try the Expatriate IPA.
