When torrential rains created mudslides that devastated the shanties outside of Cabo San Lucas in September 2017, Bakersfield's Jose Arredondo — who had at least one home near the devastation — drove around distributing cash. Here, in video shot by his friend Tim Jalving, he hands $300 to a family whose home, a small wooden shack, had been completely knocked down by the mud.

Jalving said Arredondo probably gave away $2,000 to $3,000 that day. "I cried twice that morning," Jalving said.
