Don Galey, 85, is one of the last of the old school Bakersfield guys. In his 60 years running Galey’s Marine Supply he has rubbed shoulders with some of the founders of postwar Bakersfield, including police chiefs Horace Grayson and Jack Towle. He has some stories: Live commercials on Channel 10, guys moving their cars during the show, Merle Haggard picking up a boat he’d purchased at 1.30 am — one of many boats he bought from Galey, and many more.
