The first day of school never gets old, not even for Robin Johnston who, entering her 38th year teaching at William Penn Elementary School, got her classroom ready Monday for the start of the 2019-20 academic year. Schools throughout Bakersfield have opened their doors over the past week, with Bakersfield City School District and Kern High School District getting the new year underway on Wednesday.

What an amazing legacy Robin is creating! 38 years of teaching at the same school where she attended. Amazing! I admire Robin for her dedication to serving students in Bakersfield. I bet she is a favorite teacher of many students and parents. Bless her!
