Mother’s Day was last Sunday but no will begrudge moms another day to be honored.
Be Finally Free and The Mission at Kern County have teamed to host a special Mother's Day event taking place on Saturday.
Starting at 2 p.m., this celebration will include live music, motivational speakers, games, and much more. The program is designed to provide a supportive environment where guests can come together, share their experiences, and receive encouragement and hope.
Michele Conway, director of community outreach for Be Finally Free, said that the event is held the weekend after the holiday knowing that many families have plans or travel that weekend.
She also said this gives single mothers, who may be hurting and broken over losing a loved one or circumstances in their lives, a day to celebrate free of loneliness and despair.
"Be Finally Free is all about hope and giving love to those who desperately need it, so it only made sense to do it after," she wrote in an email. "In that, the healing begins, and we can uplift them and have some fun!"
Be Finally Free is a nonprofit organization that provides support to women who have experienced trauma, while The Mission at Kern County is a Christian-based organization that offers a range of services to individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty.
A Mother's Day Celebration will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Mission at Kern County, 816 E. 21st St. The event is free to attend but guests are encouraged to register in advance at Eventbrite.com.
