With the fall semester underway at Bakersfield College, its culinary arts students at are hard at work at the on-campus restaurant Renegade Room, which opened Sept. 6.

From now until Nov. 30, the student-run facility will serve dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays and lunch on Wednesdays. Led by staff chefs, students manage every aspect of the operation, from chef to line cook to server.

Gourmet dinners on Tuesdays and themed buffets on Thursday evenings are served from 5:30 to 7 p.m. ($13.50 for dinner, $13.95 for buffet). Wednesday lunches, offered a choice among two to three dishes, are served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., ranging from $8.95 to $12.95 (depending on the dish). Prices do not include beverage or tax. Along with dining in, guests can order takeout meals.

Thursday night's buffet consists of "home-comfort classics"/"feel good food": chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, green beans with bacon, macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, cole slaw, corn cakes, buttermilk biscuits, pecan pie and carrot cake.

The restaurant accepts cash, Visa, MasterCard and personal checks. Gratuities are graciously accepted and are used to help support the Renegade Room Foundation.

The Renegade Room at Bakersfield College is located in the Family and Consumer Education Building at Panorama Drive and Mount Vernon Avenue. Free parking is available near the restaurant.
