There's a lot going on east of Chester Avenue these days and one of the tastiest additions lands Monday as Salty's BBQ and Catering heads downtown.

"We wanted to come be part of the downtown scene for lunch," said Salty's owner Jeff Salters. "We've been looking to go downtown and give it a try. Maybe we'll look for a permanent facility."

For now, the barbecue joint will park its catering trailer in front of The Silver Fox Starlite Lounge, 702 18th St., from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The bar, runs by Pyrenees Cafe owners Julie and Rod Crawford, was quick to post about the team-up, sharing on Facebook Tuesday that the businesses "are joining forces to provide the best cocktail and BBQ experience" in downtown Bakersfield.

Salters said the catering trailer will offer everything that is on the current restaurant menu.

"I'm excited about this," said Salters. "It's a great opportunity. It's a cool place to get out there and let our customers to get some barbecue."

Salters said this plan has been in the works for several months. The restaurant began operating the catering trailer in August of 2017. Salty's opened its first restaurant in October of 2012, followed by its White Lane location two years later.
