What could be more appealing to teens than a musical about teens? How about half off admission (and probably some extra credit for their theater class), which is what Stars Theatre Restaurant is offering for its Thursday productions of "The Marvelous Wonderettes."
Students can take in the show about the singing foursome headed to prom for just $32.50 (with dinner) or $20 for just the show. Note: Dinner reservations must be made a day in advance of the show.
This offer is good for either the Thursday or Aug. 30 performance. Guests must have their student or high school ID on hand to show at the theater. Tickets are available by calling 325-6100 or purchasing at the door.
New season for Stars Playhouse
Across town at Stars Playhouse, a new season is set to debut. The season opens Sept. 7 with "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," the tale of bright teen who is ill-equipped to interpret everyday life but feels compelled to solve the mystery of his neighbor's dead dog. That show runs through Sept. 22
Next up is "The Savannah Sipping Society," a story of four unique Southern women who meet for a fateful happy hour and decide to regain their enthusiasm for life. The show runs Nov. 2 to 17.
After a holiday break, the Playhouse returns Jan. 4 with "The Complete History of America (Abridged)." The show, written by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, is described as a "90-minute rollercoaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American history." The show plays through Jan. 19.
Running March 1 to 16 is "Lone Star," a comedy about two bawdily rambunctious Texas brothers.
The season concludes with "The Golden Age of ... Shakespeare?" combining the Bard with the boob tube in a nostalgic night of comedy theater. That show runs May 3 to 18.
Stars Playhouse is at 2756 Mosasco St. A season subscription is $90 for all five shows, available at bmtstars.com/season-subscriptions or by calling 325-6100.
