Prepare for a "tale as old as time" when the Garces drama club brings its production of "Beauty and the Beast Jr." to its outdoor theater space this week.
Based on the original Tony-nominated Broadway production and the Academy Award-winning motion picture, Disney’s "Beauty and the Beast Jr." features music from the late Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, who collaborated with Tim Rice for additional songs.
The school's spring musical features Jocie Sala as Belle, a small-town girl filled with dreams of a bigger life, who exchanges her freedom to save her father, Maurice (Nolan Lopez).
She resides in the enchanted castle of the Beast (Ryan Chandler), a prince cursed by an enchantress (Cindy King), aided by the enchanted servants including Lumiere (Brandon Antongiovanni), Cogsworth (Yoly Cazares), Mrs. Potts (Kelsey Buena), Chip (Ben Banducci), Madame (Suahn Cho), Footstool (Makaio Colter) and Babette (Aurora Velazquez).
The Beast must learn to love to survive but his developing romance with Belle is threatened by Gaston (Colby Hughes) and his sidekick Lafou (Gwen Grider), who rally the townsfolk to storm the castle.
The production is directed by drama teacher Amber O'Reilly and choreographed by Marnie Forzetting and Mary O'Reilly.
Shows start at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in the outdoor theater in the quad on campus, 2800 Loma Linda Drive.
Because the performance is outdoors, guests are asked to bring lawn chairs or other seating.
Tickets are $15, $10 for students (with ID), and are available at the door.
