Yacht rock fans have spoken and the California Living Museum has listened. For its second annual CALM Jamboree, the zoo will bring back, by popular demand, Yachtley Crew to perform on April 21.
Last year's sold-out inaugural event helped raise funds for CALM and Kern County Superintendent of Schools' other outdoor education program Camp KEEP, which provides an intensive, five-day earth science course for Kern students at one of its Central Coast-based camps.
This year's jamboree promises to be a fun evening, headlined by the self-described "titans of soft rock." The Southern California-based band will play a two-hour set of hits from the 1970s and '80s from artists such as Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Hall and Oates, Christopher Cross, Toto and many more.
Lead singer Philly Ocean (aka Phillip Daniel) told The Californian in advance of last year's show, "It doesn't matter if we’re playing for 7 or 7,000 — we give it 100 percent. ... We go big every time that we play. We feel that makes a huge difference. Our goal is to win over fans, to make lifetime fans."
VIP tickets holders will enjoy a catered dinner while other guests will be able to purchase meals and snacks from food trucks that will be on site.Â
Gates open at 6 p.m. (5:30 p.m. for VIP guests), followed by the musical performance at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at CALM, 10500 Alfred Harrell Highway.
Admission is $65, which includes beer and wine, or $150 for VIP tickets, which include, in addition to the alcohol, reserved VIP seating, catered dinner and dessert, souvenir sailor hat, VIP parking and early entrance. VIP tables for eight are also available for $1,200.
